Image Settings

Configure output formats, compression levels, and image resizing options to fit your needs.

The SmallPict plugin provides simple yet powerful settings to customize how your images are optimized. All image processing happens securely on our cloud infrastructure, so your WordPress server never experiences CPU spikes.

Output Formats

You can choose exactly which next-generation image formats SmallPict should generate. Modern formats like WebP and AVIF offer significantly better compression than traditional JPEG and PNG files.

  • WebP: Enabled by default. WebP provides excellent compression and is supported by 99% of modern web browsers.
  • AVIF: Available on Premium plans. AVIF offers up to 50% better compression than WebP, delivering ultra-fast loading times.

[!TIP] SmallPict automatically handles fallback images. If a visitor uses an older browser that does not support WebP or AVIF, SmallPict ensures the original JPEG/PNG is served.

Compression Levels

SmallPict offers two main compression strategies:

1. Smart Lossy (Recommended)

This is the optimal balance between file size and image quality. Our engine intelligently removes visual data that the human eye cannot perceive, resulting in dramatic file size reductions (up to 80%) with virtually no noticeable difference in quality.

2. Lossless

Lossless compression reduces file sizes by removing metadata and optimizing the mathematical structure of the image, without altering a single pixel of the visual data. This is ideal for photographers or portfolios where pixel-perfect accuracy is required, though the file size savings are smaller.

Image Resizing

Modern smartphones and high-resolution cameras often produce images that are 4000+ pixels wide. Uploading these massive files slows down your site and wastes your quota.

SmallPict can automatically resize excessively large images before optimizing them.

  • Max Width / Max Height: Define the maximum dimensions for your site (e.g., 2048px). If an image exceeds these dimensions, it will be scaled down proportionally before conversion.
  • Originals Backup: You can choose whether SmallPict should keep a copy of the unresized original on your server.

Applying Settings

Changes to your image settings will apply to all future image uploads automatically.

If you want to apply new settings to images you have previously uploaded, use the Bulk Optimization tool available in your SmallPict dashboard.
